Irene Mensah Brighton Fringe Bursary

ART:sync in conjunction with Brighton Fringe is pleased to announce the ‘Irene Mensah Artist Bursary’ in honour of our friend and colleague who sadly passed away in 2013.  Applications are invited for this very special award, which will be available for community artists based in Brighton & Hove who are participating in Brighton Fringe 2015                 
 
 
Irene Mensah Brighton Fringe Bursary
A cash award of up to £500 is available to help cover the cost of developing your creative project for your participation in Brighton Fringe 2015.  This can include costs for venue hire (performance/rehearsal/studio space), costumes, instruments and artist fees.  You can also reclaim the cost of your festival registration fee.  Additionally, you will be eligible for a free professional consultation valued at over £600.  This will include one-to-one advice on your creative practice, and guidance on issues like International Working, plus creative business skills including; Fundraising, Marketing and Project Management, delivered by from expert advisors from the ART:sync collective.

Application forms will be available to download on the Brighton Fringe website from 20 October until 15 December 2014 (closing date). Alternatively you can email jenni@artsync.co.uk for a copy of the application form.
                                   

Criteria
In order to be considered for the bursary, you must first register for Brighton Fringe 2015 and have a project in development - you will be asked to provide proof of your registration.  You will also need to meet the following criteria for African & Asian Art Forms, Urban Art Forms, Spoken Word, Physical Theatre or Visual Art.
 
All applicants must be;
 

  1. Based in Brighton & Hove
  2. Fully committed to cultural diversity and social inclusion in the arts
  3. Able to demonstrate a proven track record of artistic engagement with marginalised and/or vulnerable people, eg BME/BAME communities, refugees, deprived neighbourhoods etc

 
 
Selection Process:
The bursary winner will be selected by a panel of professional artists and producers from the ART:sync collective, with an initial shortlist followed by interviews.  The schedule is as follows;

  • 15 December 2014: Deadline for applications
  • 20 December 2014: Shortlist announced - candidates will be invited to present their project to the panel
  • 8* January 2015: Shortlisted candidates presentations (*date tbc)
  • 11 January 2015: Bursary winner announced
