Crossing the Teas is run by ART:sync, funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and is in partnership with the University of Brighton; Centre for Memories, Narrative and History at the University of Brighton; BMECP; BandBazi; Brighton Dome; CUPP; Euro-Mernet; Active Student and Brighton & Hove Museums.
It is an Oral History and Photographic Exhibition exploring different cultural practices around the shared custom of drinking Tea.
This project is a chance for community groups from diverse cultural backgrounds to share and learn about the histories, traditions and stories of their own and other cultures’ tea drinking customs, in partnership with a Volunteer Memory Collector and Heritage Facilitator.
Each week from April to early June 2015, a different community group will host their own tea party sharing their tea, foods and stories with a wider audience. A Big Tea Party will take place on 21st June 2015 with all the groups.
The oral histories captured will be edited to be part of a physical exhibition to be displayed in Jubilee Library from 22nd June to 16th July 2015. They will be incorporated into an online educational resource about Tea and Identity to be launched in September 2015.
